About Solitaire

  • American Pit Bull Terrier, Cross
  • Female
  • Good with children
  • 2 years
  • Pukekohe Adoption and Education Centre

Personality:

This lovely lass has recently been desexed and had entropian surgery on her eyes. This was due to the skin rolling in and causing eye irritation. The sutures will come out in 10 days and her eyes should be as good as new!

Solitaire is a big, gentle giant with an even bigger heart. She absolutely adores people and will happily follow you around, soaking up attention like a big sponge. She is polite, well mannered and completely people focused, much more interested in being by your side than what other animals are doing. She can be a little shy with some handling, but with kindness and patience she is a lovely, gentle girl who just wants to be close to her people.

Tamariki – 10+ due to size and need for confident handling.
Cats – Doesn't seem interested. Proper intros and training will be needed.

Kūri – Polite but avoidant mostly.
Stock/poultry – Watches chickens for a bit then wandered off. Has potential to be around poultry with correct intros and ongoing training.
Size – Currently 35.6kgs and is underweight. Likely adult weight around 40kgs.

Ideal home:

Solitaire would suit a home with older children who understand her size and will respect her space and let her build confidence at her own pace. She is polite when meeting other dogs but prefers calm company and would not enjoy a young, boisterous dog. An older, easy going dog could be a lovely companion, or she would be very happy as your one and only. She has lower energy needs but would still love to get out and about with you, and ongoing training and socialisation will help her continue to grow in confidence.

In accordance with the Dog Control Act 1996, Solitaire will be classified as Menacing by Breed and will need to adhere to the conditions attached to this.

Big dog, big heart, big love. Could Solitaire be the gentle giant you've been waiting for?
