In this workshop, kids will design, build and test elastic-powered catapults using simple materials.
By adjusting the number and arrangement of popsicle sticks, they will explore how elasticity and deflection affect force, distance and projectile motion. They will then compete in a fun 'flying pom poms' pyramid cup challenge. Along the way, participants will learn about elastic, potential and kinetic energy while developing problem-solving skills.
Robogals is a student-run global organisation started in 2008 with the mission to inspire and empower young women to pursue STEM fields. We do this by running hands-on workshops at schools and libraries around Auckland. These are run by volunteers from the University of Auckland. Our workshops are completely free of charge and are only possible with the support of our kind sponsors.
Children must be supervised by an accompanying adult.
Parnell Library is a wheelchair accessible venue.
