Matariki Lantern Making Day | Tuesday 7 July, 10.30am - 11.45am (Betty Paxton Room)
Celebrate Matariki by creating your very own lantern to take home.
Using glass jars and decorative materials, children will design beautiful lanterns inspired by the stars of Matariki.
Lanterns symbolise guidance, hope, remembrance and light during the winter season. Come and create a glowing reminder of this special time of year.
Suitable for children. Adult supervision required for younger children.

Design your own superhero, magical creature, animal friend or storybook character and add them to our special Character Wall display.

Lights, camera, action!
Create your own stop-motion movie inspired by Matariki and the winter night sky. Children will work together to build scenes, move characters and bring their stories to life frame by frame.
A fun introduction to animation, creativity and storytelling.

Flax Weaving Workshop | Tuesday 14 July, 10.30am - 11.30am
Discover the traditional art of flax weaving during this hands-on Matariki activity.
Participants will learn simple weaving techniques while creating their own woven keepsake to take home.
A wonderful opportunity to explore creativity, culture and craftsmanship.

Art Day with Artist Sue Williams | Wednesday 15 July, 10am - 11.30am (Betty Paxton Room)
Join local artist Sue Williams for a special canvas painting workshop.
Children will create their own animal-themed artwork on canvas while learning painting techniques and expressing their creativity in a supportive environment.
Ages 7–11 years. Limited to 10 participants.
