Join Restore Hibiscus & Bays (RHB), Long Bay Residents Association, and Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust for a special ecological restoration planting day at Awa Rua Ika/Vaughan's Stream, Long Bay - where we'll be planting 1,800 native plants to restore this precious waterway.
What is it?
A community planting day where volunteers come together to plant native trees and shrubs along Vaughan's Stream. Imagine this stream as a beautiful, regenerating native bush - bustling with local wildlife and home to endangered species. This dream is becoming a reality, and every plant put in the ground helps stabilise the stream banks, filter run-off, and restore habitat for the taonga species that call this waterway home. Get your hands in the soil while making a real difference for our community and the environment!
Who can come?
Everyone is welcome - individuals, families, businesses and community groups of all ages and backgrounds. No experience needed.
What's involved?
You'll be planting native trees and shrubs under the guidance of the RHB team, from 10am to 2pm. Mountains to Sea will also be on-site with an information stall and Zero Waste will be supporting the day. It's outdoors, active and a great way to meet your neighbours and give back to your local environment. A BBQ will follow the planting.
What to bring:
- Gardening gloves
- A clean spade (if you have one - tools provided if not)
- Water and snacks
- Sturdy closed-toe shoes
- Warm layers - it's winter!
What's provided:
- All tools and equipment
