Whakapapa links us to our whenua, our tīpuna and our identity.

Whether you're just beginning your whakapapa journey or are deep into your research, join us at Tātai Hono, a whakapapa research open day designed to support you wherever you're at.

Bring your questions, research goals and curiosity. Throughout the day, you'll have access to Māori research specialists and expert advisors who can help guide your inquiries, navigate research challenges and connect you with the rich range of whakapapa resources available throughout the research centre.

We're also excited to be joined by specialist partners, including representatives from the Māori Land Court, who can provide guidance on Māori land records, ownership searches, succession information and more.

  • Explore unique taonga and special collections
  • Access expert research support throughout the day
  • Discover whakapapa resources and research pathways
  • Connect with others in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Part of the Tātai Whakapapa movement, Tātai Hono creates spaces for connection, discovery and learning, helping whānau strengthen their understanding of who they are and where they come from.

Nau mai, haere mai. Come and research your whakapapa in a supportive kaupapa Māori environment.
