Response 87 Blockhouse Bay, A Day Trippers Paradise Then And Now

Guided by Krystene Vickers from the Blockhouse Bay Historical Society, the tour sets off from Armanasco House, an early farmhouse that now serves as a local museum.

The walk passes by former tomato growing areas, the library, the school, old tearooms, early shops and churches.

Following the trail past local murals, the route heads to the beach and Te Whau Point, which marks the historic site of Te Whau Pā and its once rich fishing grounds.

The journey continues along the coast, passing the locations of early seaside shops, kiosks, traditional cottages, and the historic baches used by generations of picnickers and campers.

In addition to the guided walk, Armanasco House is open to visitors on 3 October, offering a chance to view the museum collections before or after your journey.
