Safety and mitigation works are well underway on the council’s building at 135 Albert Street with the construction of a working platform around the base of the building and the installation of a hanging scaffold on the upper levels.
The scaffold and working platform are designed in a way that will both mitigate risk and perform a functional role for the repair works that follow.
General Manager Corporate Finance and Property Kevin Ramsay says an expression of interest process is underway to register interest from contractors that may wish to carry out the repair works, and have the capacity and capability to do so.
Mr Ramsay says there is also a parallel process being undertaken, facilitated through the council’s Chief Engineer, to review the engineering solution and methodology selected to resolve the cladding issue.
A project page has been set up on the council’s website. This includes a comprehensive timeline of the history and background of the council’s purchase of the building and actions it has taken to date. This will be updated as the project progresses.
