Gateway to the great outdoors

A local community centre focused on the natural environment of the Wāitakere Ranges.

Your gateway to the Waitākere Ranges starts here. Visit Arataki Visitor Centre to explore interactive displays, learn about local wildlife and enjoy panoramic views across Auckland.

On the outskirts of Titirangi sits the Arataki Visitor Centre. This spot is a must-visit if you’re interested in going for a scenic bush walk or wanting to learn more about nature.

You will be greeted by a grand 11-metre tall kauri pou (post), depicting the ancestors of iwi Te Kawerau ā Maki. It is one of the largest pou of its kind in New Zealand.

As you go up the ramp to the visitor centre, you will be immersed in the beauty of the Waitākere Ranges with grand views of the Lower Nihoputu dam and Manukau Harbour. Inside the visitor centre you will find fun activities and art exhibitions. There is also a unique gift shop where you can browse nature related books, jewellery, homewares, toys and more.

It’s the starting point of many bush walk tracks, so you can pop in to grab a map and find out what wildlife you’ll discover. Our helpful staff are available to help you plan your journey.
