Takapuna Big Bike Party

Takapuna is gearing up for a celebration on two wheels!

The Takapuna Cycling Connections project is bringing a programme of free, welcoming activities to the community, starting with its flagship event — the Takapuna Big Bike Party.

Join us for an action-packed afternoon of bikes, games, food, music and good times. Takapuna Primary School's bike track will be transformed into a lively 'Tour de Takapuna', complete with cheering, bells, commentary and plenty of encouragement.

Children, adults and whānau can take on fun challenges including a slow race, skills slalom, target stop, obstacle course and family relay. It’s all about participation (not performance) so everyone can have a go, whatever their age or experience.

There’ll also be:

  • basic bike checks
  • practical advice
  • different bikes to explore
  • local route information
  • community stalls
  • and giveaways!

Bring your bike, whether it’s running perfectly or needs a tune-up! If you’ve never ridden a bike before or are a bit wobbly – we’ve also got you covered! Join our Kids Learn to Ride or Adults Learn to Ride class on the day or sign up to attend one of our other upcoming courses or events.

The Big Bike Party is just the beginning. We’re also putting on a series of relaxed social rides helping Takapuna locals discover useful local routes, meet other riders and build confidence riding around Takapuna.

There will also be regular:

  • Kids Learn to Ride sessions
  • adult cycle skills courses (including beginner, pathway, road-riding and e-bike options)
  • community bike maintenance workshops.

These activities are being delivered alongside the Takapuna Cycling Connections project, which is investigating safer, better-connected cycling links in Takapuna.

Bring your bike, bring the whānau and come along to the Takapuna Big Bike Party — because bikes are for everyone!
