Rugby league fans can start planning for a historic State of Origin in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, with Game 2 of the 2027 Ampol State of Origin series confirmed for Wednesday 16 June at Eden Park.
The clash between the New South Wales Blues and Queensland Maroons will be the first State of Origin played in New Zealand and the first outside Australia in 40 years, giving fans on both sides of the Tasman the chance to be part of a landmark moment in rugby league history.
General public tickets for Game 2 will go on sale in November, with Kiwi fans encouraged to register now for ticket information.
Australian fans can also start planning their trip to New Zealand, with a limited number of official travel and hospitality packages available from today (18 August), bringing together match tickets, travel and accommodation for their Auckland stay.
The Origin clash will be the centrepiece of a major week of rugby league in Auckland, with the Warriors confirmed to play at Eden Park on Sunday 13 June ahead of Game 2 on Wednesday night.
Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown says confirmation of the date is an exciting milestone for an event Tātaki Auckland Unlimited worked hard to secure for the city.
“Bringing State of Origin to New Zealand for the first time is a big win for Auckland. It’s one of the biggest events in Australasian sport, and the level of interest we’ve already seen shows how many people want to be part of it.
“Now the date is confirmed, fans here and across the Tasman can start making their plans. With the Warriors at Eden Park on the Sunday, Origin on Wednesday night, and more to come, it’s shaping up to be a great week of rugby league.
“We want fans to come for more than just the game – make a week of it and experience Auckland’s take on State of Origin, in the stadium and around the city.”
Plans are underway for a State of Origin takeover of Auckland, with fan activations, appearances by players and Origin legends, community events, live broadcasts and other activity planned across the city.
Tātaki Auckland Unlimited CE Nick Hill says the response since Auckland was announced as a 2027 State of Origin host demonstrates the appetite for bringing one of rugby league’s biggest events to New Zealand.
“The response to State of Origin coming to Auckland has been exceptional. We know how passionate New Zealanders are about rugby league, and we’re expecting an incredible atmosphere when the Blues and Maroons run out at Eden Park.
“Now the date is locked in, the message to fans is simple – mark 16 June in your calendar and get ready for something special. We’re expecting thousands of visitors from across New Zealand and Australia, and we want them to stay longer, explore the region and enjoy everything Auckland has to offer.
“Behind the scenes, our team is working with partners to create a genuine Origin takeover of Auckland, building a week of activity around the match that delivers for fans, local businesses and the city.”
The Auckland fixture follows another huge year for State of Origin, including a record 91,671 fans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for Game II of the 2026 series.
The historic event was secured through the work and investment of Auckland Council Events, through Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, alongside the New Zealand Government’s Major Events Fund.
Further details about State of Origin week in Auckland will be announced in the coming months.
