North/West Hub to be located in Albany

Decision made following review of Expressions of Interest

Auckland Council Executives have endorsed a decision to locate a new North/West Hub in Albany. Designed to provide a home location for operational staff, the hub will not impact the council’s customer service centre network.

Respondents to the recent Expressions of Interest (EOI) were asked to provide information relating to design, local amenities, connectivity to motorway infrastructure and distance to a major public transport hub as well as details of their own developer track record and commercial readiness.

Speaking about the decision, Head of Corporate Property Rod Aitken says, “The quality of the EOIs was extremely high. It proved to be a difficult decision, but ultimately the selected short-listed sites are all in Albany.

“Albany already has an existing park and ride; the Northern busway is being extended and the work on the Northern Corridor will also be completed by the time the Hub is ready in mid-2022.

“Although the North/West Hub will be based in Albany, we will be retaining a significant presence in the current Henderson Civic building. We’ve also opened ‘drop-in’ working areas for staff in Westgate, Huapai and Helensville over the past year, giving our people more choice of where and how to work.

"We will now enter into a Request for Proposals (RFP) process which we expect to be completed by the end of the year."
